Update: the profile modules work again in Beaver Profile Builder 1.0.2

| henry

Beaver Profile Builder 1.0.2 fixes the modules on sites running 1.0.0 or 1.0.1. The Profile Edit Form, Profile Delete Form and Avatar Edit modules load, render and save again, and the PHP warnings printed on activation are gone. If you’re on either version, update now.

First, the practical bit

If your license is active, the update is waiting in your WordPress admin under Dashboard > Updates, or on the plugin’s row under Plugins > Installed Plugins. If you’d rather download it, sign in to Tangible Cloud, open Downloads, and get the zip from there.

Beaver Profile Builder still needs Beaver Builder. Avatar Edit also needs the free Simple Local Avatars plugin. Your pages, module settings and plugin settings carry over as they are.

If you added a profile module to a page while you were on 1.0.0 or 1.0.1, open that page in Beaver Builder once after updating and click Publish. Beaver Builder keeps a cached copy of each layout’s scripts, and saving the page rebuilds it. Clearing the cache under Settings > Beaver Builder > Tools does the same for every page at once.

What was wrong

1.0.0 moved Beaver Profile Builder onto Tangible’s new plugin framework. In the move, the modules lost track of where their own files live. That broke them in three ways:

  • WordPress printed a run of “Undefined property” and “config on null” warnings when the plugin was activated, and again on every page that used a module. Most sites hide PHP warnings, so many people never saw them, but the modules were still broken.
  • The form templates didn’t load, so a module placed on a page showed nothing.
  • The modules’ scripts and styles (the date and time pickers, form validation) loaded from a broken address, and adding a Profile Edit Form in the builder could stop its settings from opening.

1.0.2 lets each module find its own files again, so all three render and work as they did before.

Two smaller fixes

  • The plugin’s module names no longer load translations before WordPress is ready for them. On sites that show notices, that early load printed a notice that could break Beaver Builder’s settings screens.
  • Each module’s front-end script now ends properly. Beaver Builder joins every module’s script on a page into one file, and a missing semicolon at the end of ours could stop the next module’s script from running. In practice that meant the Profile Edit Form and the Delete button’s confirmation popup didn’t respond to clicks.

There’s more on the activation warnings in the Troubleshooting docs.
